MEND: The Women

Invisible Children, September 2009

In the summer of 2009, I spent a month in Uganda documenting the lives of thirteen formerly-abducted child mothers currently under the employ of Invisible Children. Upon returning to the United States, I worked closely with Andrea Nakhla and Ashley Gutierrez for two months to produce thirteen bio videos in only two months. Each video told the personal story of one girl.

Invisible Children’s MEND program focuses on rehabilitating those who have suffered most from the war in Uganda. Each girl handcrafts bags, personally sewing her own name into each of them. This enables the consumer to not only know the name of the woman who made her bag, but they can go online and watch the video telling her story.
